Santa Cruz, CA – Drive for Schools, Santa Cruz County’s largest fundraiser benefiting local schools, launches its 17th year on Wednesday, September 15. Sponsored by the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Drive for Schools features a grand prize of $25,000 and includes five additional $1,000 cash prizes. Local businesses have also donated nearly 100 valuable prizes for this year’s event.
The public can purchase tickets from hundreds of school volunteers representing over 70 participating local schools. Tickets are on sale Wednesday, September 15 through Sunday, October 17. Tickets are $5 each or $25 for 6. Winners will be selected at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on Sunday, October 24. Attendance at the drawing is not required in order to win.
Since its inception in 2005, Drive for Schools has raised $7.2 million for Santa Cruz County’s schools. Money raised from Drive for Schools helps participating local schools fund sports teams, arts programs and purchase much-needed school supplies.
“The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is extremely proud to once again present Drive for Schools,” said Kris Reyes, Boardwalk spokesperson. “Now more than ever local schools need all the help they can get and Drive for Schools is a proven way to help students and teachers fund important programs and purchase classroom essentials.”
Participating schools keep all the money they raise selling tickets, with no overhead costs to them. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, in partnership with many generous local business, provides all the necessary materials including tickets, posters, prizes and support needed to be successful.
“Drive for Schools funds help us to ensure that all of our students have access to enriching academic and social experiences like Science Camp,” said Rich Moran, Mintie White Elementary School Principal. “Drive for Schools is an integral part of our small school’s fundraising efforts and 100% of our sales stay with our school,” said Dawn Harker from the Boulder Creek Elementary Parents Club. “The odds of winning are great and it makes for a fun fundraiser for our families.
