New Program Offers Santa Cruz Students Valuable Job Training and Experience
SANTA CRUZ, CA (September 4, 2019) – The Santa Cruz County Office of Education Career and Technical Education Program (CTEP) has teamed up with The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk to offer students in Santa Cruz County an innovative educational experience.
The new CTEP Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation course being held at the Boardwalk on Thursdays from 1-3pm is aimed at students interested in exploring a career in Hospitality and Tourism.
Taught by local culinary professional Andrea Mollenaeur, the class offers students a behind-the scenes, practical class on various aspects of the tourism industry including, hospitality, food service, health and safety and culinary arts at one of the most famous tourist destinations on the West Coast. In addition to class time, students will also get paid to work one shift per month at the Boardwalk to gain valuable work experience.
“Whether it is a career plan or a passion, the students in the Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation course
at the Boardwalk will develop skills that will prepare them for an estimated 1,400 new jobs in Leisure and Hospitality from 2016-2026 in Santa Cruz County,” said Mark Hodges, Santa Cruz County CTEP Director.
