SANTA CRUZ, CA (September 15, 2020) –  Drive for Schools, Santa Cruz County's largest school fundraiser, kicks off its 16th year on Wednesday, September 15.  Sponsored by the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, this year’s Drive for Schools Grand Prize winner will win $25,000 cash. Participatns will also be eligible to win five $1,000 cash prizes and many other valuable prizes donated by local businesses.
The public can purchase tickets from hundreds of school volunteers representing over 50 local schools September 15 through October 25 for their chance to win.  Tickets are $5 each or $25 for 6. Drive for Schools tickets include a coupon to park for free at the Boardwalk on November 1 for the prize drawing at 1pm. Winners need not be present to win.

Drive for Schools has raised $6.8 million dollars for local schools since 2005. Last year alone, 75 local schools raised more than $690,000. Schools use their Drive for Schools income/for art, music, and sports programs as well as science camps, and classroom supplies.

"All local businesses are dealing with difficult times this year, including the Boardwalk, but our local schools need our support now more than ever," said Kris Reyes, Boardwalk spokesperson. "We are proud to continue this important fundraiser in support of local schools".

Each school keeps all the money they raise selling tickets with no overhead costs. School volunteers receive everything they need in September including tickets, posters, prizes and support, making the fundraiser exceptionally easy for schools to administer.

"We are most grateful for the Boardwalk's continued sponsorship of this fundraiser.  This is meaningfully valued during this challenging time." the parent coordinator from Holy Cross, Catalina Groyon, said in an email.
Drive for Schools is the largest school fundraiser in Santa Cruz County. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk has donated the cash prizes and employee time to organize the fundraiser. Dozens of local businesses also donate prizes for the event. Tickets and posters are printed by Mission Printers in Santa Cruz.
