“Drive for Schools” Raises $646,000 for Santa Cruz Schools

The Drive for Schools Grand Prize Drawing will be held at 1pm on Sunday, October 23 at Neptune’s Stage on the Boardwalk. The lucky Grand Prize Winner will receive a new Toyota Prius, Subaru Outback, or $25,000 cash. Other major prizes include ten $1,000 cash prizes, $1,000 gift certificate from Dell Williams Jewelers; a beach cruiser donated by Boardwalk concessionaire Matt Twisselman; overnight stays at Santa Cruz Dream Inn and Hilton Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley; golf packages at Pasatiempo, Boulder Creek and Seascape; Santa Cruz Warriors tickets, plus gift certificates for dining, sailing, and kayaking and other valuable merchandise.
There is one last chance to purchase Drive for Schools tickets this Sunday October 23, from 11am - 1:00pm at Neptune’s Stage on the Boardwalk. Tickets are $5 each or $25 for 6. Sunday’s ticket sales will benefit Santa Cruz County Special Education Department. All other school sales are now closed.
Top earning schools in each category (High School, Jr. High/Middle School, Elementary, Multi Grade, and a Special Spirit Award) will be recognized for their efforts with trophies to be presented by representatives from the Boardwalk and Capitola Auto Dealers in the next couple of weeks. Those schools include Soquel High School ($23,229), SLV Nature Academy ($9,170), Valencia Elementary ($24,850), Tierra Pacifica Charter ($27,235), and a Special Spirit Award for Watsonville Charter ($22,855).
The Capitola Auto Mall Dealer Group and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk share the cost of the car and other cash prizes and donate staff time to organize and run the fundraiser. Hundreds of school volunteers coordinate their school's ticket sales. Dozens of local businesses donate prizes for the event. Tickets and posters are printed by Mission Printers. Schools keep 100% of money from their ticket sales.
